A REVOLUTIONARY technique that gives patients a new set of implanted teeth within a day, instead of months, has been successfully used by a British dental team for the first time.
The technique, developed in Sweden, can be done for less than half the cost of traditional dental implant surgery.

The method is faster and less expensive because the hardware comes "off the shelf", using standardised fittings into which the teeth are housed.

Prof Per-Ingvar Branemark,said that with the old method, implanted titanium screws were left sleeping in the bottom jaw for about three months before a new round of operations to fix and align the teeth individually. He said: "The whole process could last six months and cost £12,000 to £15,000." The new system, developed by Prof Per-Ingvar Branemark, from Gothenberg, costs about £8,500.00

The new procedure involves two ready-made plates. The first plate is screwed into the jaw and receives a second plate into which the teeth will be screwed. The screws on which the teeth are fixed go through to the first plate, making everything secure.

When the second plate is in place, impressions are taken for alignment with the upper jaw. The second plate goes to the dental technician with the impressions, who makes the teeth and fits them to the plate. The second plate, with new teeth, is then fitted to the patient's jaw.

Jet injection propels a fine stream of liquid medication under high pressure through a small orifice through the skin. All without a needle. INJEX™ is a spring-loaded needle-less hypodermic injection system. A Reset Box will cock the integrated spring before each use. Sterile adapters enable the transfer of the desired medication from its vial into the disposable ampule for injection. A reusable transporter is available to draw up liquid drugs from cartridges (e.g.LA).
